The Eastgate Centre is a shopping centre and office block in central Harare, Zimbabwe whose architect is Mick Pearce. Designed to be ventilated and cooled by entirely natural means, it was probably the first building in the world to use natural cooling to this level of sophistication. It opened in 1996 on Robert Mugabe Avenue and Second Street, and provides 5,600 m² of retail space, 26,000 m² of office space and parking for 450 cars. Designing for thermal control The Eastgate Centre's design is a deliberate move away from the "big glass block". Glass office blocks are typically expensive to maintain at a comfortable temperature, needing substantial heating in the winter and cooling in the summer. They tend to recycle air, in an attempt to keep the expensively conditioned atmosphere inside, leading to high levels of air pollution in the building. Věra Sosnarová (* 5. květen 1931 Brno) je česká občanka, která byla ve věku 14 let spolu se svou matkou a 9letou sestrou 17. května 1945 podle svých slov odvlečena sovětskou tajnou službou NKVD do ruského pracovního tabora na Sibiři. Její tvrzení se však nepodařilo prokázat ani úředníkům ČSSZ, ani historikům. Únos, pracovní tábory a návrat Věra se svou sestrou byly uneseny na základě toho, že jejich matka Ljuba Šímová roku 1922 uprchla před doznívající ruskou občanskou válkou do Československa. V pracovních táborech, dolech, kolchozech atd. strávily celkem 19 let (od konce roku 1945 do léta 1964). Jejich matka přežila v pracovním táboře jen 3 měsíce, zemřela v noci z 5. ledna na 6. ledna 1946. Roku 1964 ji i se sestrou na přímluvu předsedy jednoho ruského kolchozu propustili do JZD Znojmo, kam docestovaly na počátku roku 1965. Po návratu Při odjezdu ze Sovětského svazu i při příjezdu do vlasti musela podepsat úplnou mlčenlivost o svém osudu a z obavy o opětovné…
