Iceland does not have a public railway system. There have been three small railways, but none became part of the public transport network. Ačkoliv se to ještě před pár měsíci zdálo jako naprostá utopie (vysněná, fantastická představa, nereálný plán – například jako vlak na Letiště Václava Havla), i v Praze se čas od času stane zázrak. Já za něj považuji příslib nového vedení města, které se plnou vahou svých funkcí a svého mandátu postavilo za nápad vrátit tramvaje na Václavské náměstí v podélném směru.

Ein Gleisfünfeck oder Wendestern ist eine verschlungene Gleisfigur in Form eines Pentagramms, die zum Wenden von Schienenfahrzeugen, speziell Dampflokomotiven mit Schlepptender, dient. Es wurde insbesondere in Italien an Orten verwendet, wo man die Wartung von Drehscheiben als problematisch ansah. Aufbau Es besteht aus fünf Weichen (zwei davon zur Ein- und Ausfahrt), drei Kreuzungen und drei sternförmig angelegten Stumpfgleisen. Gegenüber einem Gleisdreieck, wie es insbesondere von amerikanischen Eisenbahnen zum Wenden bekannt ist, ist das Gleisfünfeck konstruktiv um zwei zusätzliche Weichen und drei Kreuzungen aufwändiger, beansprucht jedoch bei gegebenem Mindestradius der Gleisbögen deutlich weniger Grundfläche. Die Lokomotive wendet durch mehrfaches Vor- und Zurückstoßen, sog. Sägefahrten, wobei sie zunächst in ein äußeres, dann das innere und schließlich das andere äußere Stumpfgleis fährt, bevor sie gewendet den Stern zur anderen Seite hin verlässt. Das mehrfache, bei Dampflokomotiven aufwändige Umsteuern muss als betriebliches Hindernis gesehen werden (um gewendet wieder ins Ausgangsgleis zu gelangen…
